Course Information

This training addresses the unique challenges and risks associated with tasks performed at heights in wind turbine environments.

Participants will acquire understanding in areas including Personal Fall Arrest Equipment, measures for preventing falls, ladder usage safety, individual and colleague rescue and protocols for handling emergencies.

By enrolling in our GWO Working at Height course, you’ll be prepared to meet the demands of working at heights in the wind energy sector while prioritising the safety of yourself and others at all times.

Who Should Attend?

This course is intended for personnel working in the wind industry who already hold valid certification and need to complete a height refresher within the required timeframe. It is particularly suited to technicians carrying out routine work duties on wind turbines where working at height is a regular part of operations. Delegates must be medically fit and able to take part in all practical training exercises.

What the Course Covers

The working at height refresher combines theoretical and practical training across all key areas of the GWO working at height standard. Participants will revisit:

  • Hazard identification and risk assessment for working at height in a WTG environment

  • Correct pre-use inspection and application of fall arrest lanyards, guided type fall arresters, work positioning lanyards, and anchor points

  • Correct fitting of hard hats and all relevant personal protective equipment

  • Safe ladder conduct, movement at height, and use of evacuation devices

  • Manual handling techniques and safe approaches when performing tasks at height

  • Comprehensive basic rescue exercises including approaching a casualty, using rescue equipment, and carrying out a full rescue operation

  • Legislative requirements and GWO training standards for working safely at height

All practical training is carried out in realistic scenarios, giving delegates the opportunity to demonstrate correct techniques under observation.

Certification and Validity

Upon successful completion, participants renew their GWO working at height certification, which is recorded in WINDA. This ensures continued compliance with GWO training requirements and allows individuals to continue working safely at height within the wind energy sector. The renewed certificate is valid for two years from the completion date.

Delegates whose certificate has already expired will need to attend the full initial working at height course rather than the refresher. If you are unsure which course applies to you, contact our team before booking.
