  • GWO basic safety training is designed for anyone entering or working within the wind industry, It is a mandatory requirement for all roles. Participants must be medically fit and capable of completing physically demanding practical training including climbing, lifting, and water-based exercises.

  • GWO Fire Awareness - This training is a vital component of ensuring the safety and well-being of professionals working in the wind industry. This comprehensive training equips delegates with essential knowledge about the potential hazards they may encounter in their line of work, specifically related to fire incidents. During the training, delegates learn about the various fire risks that can arise within the unique environment of the wind industry. They become familiar with the different types of fires that can occur and the factors that contribute to their development.
GWO First Aid - Administering safe and effective first aid in the wind turbine industry is of paramount importance to ensure the well-being of workers and to respond promptly to any emergencies that might arise. During the training sessions, participants will gain comprehensive knowledge on crucial subjects such as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), administering basic first aid, adept assessment and communication, initiating emergency assistance, and effectively employing Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).
GWO Working at Heights - This training addresses the unique challenges and risks associated with tasks performed at heights in wind turbine environments. Participants will acquire understanding in areas including Personal Fall Arrest Equipment, measures for preventing falls, ladder usage safety, individual and colleague rescue and protocols for handling emergencies.
GWO Manual Handling - Practising safe manual handling practises and the risks associated in performing incorrect techniques.

    • A valid WINDA ID is required.

    • Safety footwear is required for all practical sessions.

    • A general standard of fitness is required.

    • Photographic ID Card, such as a drivers licence or passport.

  • After successfully finishing the course, participants will receive a GWO-approved Manual Handling and Working at Height certificate, which remains valid for a duration of two years. To maintain their certification, delegates are required to undergo GWO Manual Handling and Working at Height Training again before the certificate's expiration date.

  • Registration and Welcome: The day typically begins with registration, where participants confirm their attendance and receive any necessary training materials or equipment.
Safety Briefing: A safety briefing is conducted to highlight the importance of adhering to safety protocols throughout the training session and in our centre.

Failure to fulfill any of these prerequisites may lead to the participant being requested to leave the course. Please note that no refunds will be issued in such cases.

What Does GWO Basic Safety Training Cover?

The basic safety training BST course includes five core modules: first aid, manual handling, fire awareness, working at heights, and sea survival. Together these modules form a complete foundation in safety training, ensuring participants can identify hazards, apply risk reduction techniques, and respond appropriately to emergency situations.

Training is delivered through a mix of classroom-based learning and practical exercises using real-world scenarios. All delegates must be registered on WINDA before attending, as this system records training and certification across the global wind energy industry.

Certification and Recertification

Once completed, certification is uploaded to WINDA, providing a globally recognised record of your GWO basic safety training. The certification is valid for two years, after which refresher training is required to maintain compliance with GWO training standards and continue working in the wind energy sector.
