Course Information
This training covers all aspects of being the dedicated Fire Warden within the workplace. It addresses responsibilities in both low-risk settings, such as office environments, and high-risk settings, such as construction sites. It includes fire extinguisher training and simulations conducted in a blind-folded or smoke-filled environment to ensure preparedness and effective response in fire emergencies.
What Does a Fire Warden Do?
A fire warden is responsible for supporting fire safety in the workplace before, during, and after a fire emergency. Fire warden duties include conducting fire risk assessments, identifying potential fire hazards, implementing fire safety measures, and leading safe evacuation procedures in the event of a fire. A fully trained fire warden acts as the link between employees and the responsible person accountable for fire safety arrangements under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order.
Fire wardens also carry out proactive duties such as checking fire signage, proactive duties around fire equipment inspections, testing emergency lighting, and ensuring fire extinguishers and fire blankets are correctly located and accessible.

Our fire warden training course covers all aspects of the fire warden role, including current fire safety legislation, human behaviour in a fire emergency, and how to identify fire hazards specific to your workplace. The course includes practical training with fire extinguishers, covering the different types of fire extinguisher available and their correct applications. Delegates also take part in smoke evacuation drills, learning how to safely navigate a smoke-filled environment and guide others to safety. Safety Briefing: A safety briefing is conducted to highlight the importance of adhering to safety protocols throughout the training session and in our centre.
Catering: Lunch is not provided for our 0.5 day courses. How many fire wardens a workplace needs will vary depending on the size, layout, and risk level of the premises. As a general guide, low risk workplaces typically require one fire warden per 50 people, while higher risk environments may require more. The responsible person for fire safety in your organisation should carry out a fire risk assessment to determine the correct number of trained fire warden or fire marshal roles required.
Fire Marshal and Fire Warden - What Is the Difference?
Fire marshal and fire warden are terms that are often used interchangeably. In practice, a fire marshal typically refers to someone with broader site-wide responsibilities, while a fire warden may manage a specific zone or floor. Our fire warden training course and fire marshal training cover the same core competencies and lead to the same fire warden training certificate. Whether your employer uses the term fire marshal or fire warden, this training course meets the requirement.
Certification
Upon successful completion of the fire warden training course, delegates receive a fire warden training certificate valid for two years. To remain compliant with health and safety obligations, delegates are required to complete the training course again before their certificate expires. The certificate confirms the delegate is a trained fire warden competent to fulfil fire marshal duties within their workplace.
