GWO Working at Height
GWO Working at Height Training
Our GWO Working at Height training is a vital training course designed to prepare technicians for working at height within the wind industry. As part of the BST working standard, this height training course combines theoretical and practical training to enable participants to work safely in a wind turbine environment, including a remote wind turbine environment.
The course ensures delegates demonstrate knowledge of hazards and risks associated with working at height and understand risks associated with working on a wind turbine generator and wind turbine generator WTG. Through structured GWO training, learners demonstrate correct identification of hazards and identify aspects that impact safety in daily job tasks.

Course Information
GWO Working at Height addresses the unique challenges and risks associated with tasks performed at heights in wind turbine environments.
Participants will gain understanding in areas including Personal Fall Arrest Equipment, measures for preventing falls, ladder usage safety, individual and colleague rescue and protocols for handling emergencies.
GWO Working at Height ensures that you prioritise safety, adhere to best practices, and are prepared to respond to any height related emergencies, so safeguarding both yourself and your colleagues.
What the Training Course Covers
This GWO working at height programme includes manual handling, safety equipment, and personal protective equipment to support safe operations in wind turbines. Delegates will learn the correct use of fall arrest lanyards, fall arrest lanyards guided, and lanyards guided type fall, alongside guided type fall arresters.
Participants will also:
-
Correctly fit relevant PPE and fit relevant PPE including basic personal protective equipment and basic PPE

-
Use evacuation devices and identify anchor points in a safe and sound manner
This training course includes correct identification of regional standard markings, helping delegates identify signs of wear or faults. The course also includes correct identification of harness fall arrest lanyards, arrest lanyards guided type, and work positioning lanyards, ensuring safe work duties at height.

This course is suitable for any personnel working in the wind industry.
Correctly use personal fall protection equipment (PFPE).
Conducting work at heights while ensuring safety.
Carry out a safe basic height rescue operation in a remote wind turbine environment, while following the Working at Heights standards established by The GWO.-
A valid WINDA ID is required.
-
Safety footwear is required for all practical sessions.
-
A general standard of fitness is required.
-
Photographic ID Card, such as a drivers licence or passport.
-
After successfully finishing the course, participants will receive a GWO-approved working at height certificate, which remains valid for a duration of two years. To maintain their certification, delegates are required to undergo GWO working at height training again before the certificate's expiration date.
Registration and Welcome: The day typically begins with registration, where participants confirm their attendance and receive any necessary training materials or equipment.
Safety Briefing: A safety briefing is conducted to highlight the importance of adhering to safety protocols throughout the training session and in our centre.

This combined training course integrates manual handling into realistic rescue situations, ensuring learners can approach rescue situations effectively.
Through practical training, participants will:
-
Perform comprehensive basic rescue and rescue equipment efficiently
-
Use rescue equipment in simulated rescue situations
-
Demonstrate correct techniques when using work positioning lanyards and fall arrest lanyards
-
Apply safe practices in a wind turbine environment
The heights training element ensures delegates demonstrate understanding of height specific challenges and current national and regional safety expectations.
Certification and Course Details
Upon successful completion, delegates completing this GWO working course will receive a GWO approved Working at Height certificate, valid for two years. To remain compliant with legislative requirements, refresher training is required before expiry. This GWO working at height course typically lasts 2 days and may include blended learning options. It is ideal for those entering the renewables sector or working on wind turbines who need to understand hazards and maintain correct conduct in a safe manner.
