GWO Fire Awareness Refresher
GWO Fire Awareness Refresher Course Overview
The GWO Fire Awareness Refresher course is designed to renew and strengthen the knowledge and skills required to identify fire hazards and respond effectively to fire incidents in a wind turbine environment. This refresher training ensures personnel remain compliant with GWO fire awareness standards while maintaining the ability to act safely in emergency situations.
This fire awareness refresher follows GWO courses and forms part of basic safety training, focusing on both theoretical and practical training. The course enables participants to refresh their understanding of fire risks, the development and spread of fire, and the correct actions to take when discovering a fire, including smoke detection and emergency escape procedures. Participants will reinforce their basic knowledge of fire awareness and develop confidence in making appropriate judgements during fire-related events.

Course Information
GWO Fire Awareness Refresher is a vital component of ensuring the safety of personnel in the wind industry. This training equips delegates with essential knowledge about the potential hazards they may encounter in their line of work, specifically related to any type of fire incidents.
During the training, delegates will learn or refresh their skills about the various fire risks that can arise within the unique environment of the wind industry. Become familiar with the different types of fires that can occur and the factors that can contribute to their development, such as weather conditions, equipment malfunctions, and electrical faults.
Delegates will learn preventive measures and early detection of fire hazards. Delegates are educated on fire prevention strategies, safe work practices, and the correct usage of fire safety equipment, including fire extinguishers.
Delegates also learn how to respond efficiently and effectively in case of a fire emergency. They learn proper evacuation procedures, how to raise the alarm, and how to conduct themselves safely during an evacuation.
Please note, this course is suitable for both those completing the refresher and those doing it for the first time.
Practical Training and Fire Response
A key part of the course is practical training, where participants demonstrate correct actions in simulated fire situations. This includes the correct use of firefighting equipment, practising fire extinguishing, and learning how to respond to an initial fire safely.
Participants will also practise emergency escape procedures, ensuring they can manage evacuation and confirm personnel are safely accounted for.
Fire Hazards, Prevention and Safety
The training reinforces the importance of prevent fires strategies, helping participants understand the risks and related dangers associated with working in a turbine environment including smoke detection systems.
Delegates will develop the ability to identify risks early, apply preventative measures, and follow safety procedures in accordance with industry standards.

This course is suitable for personnel in the wind industry who hold an existing fire awareness certificate that is approaching expiry or within the valid renewal window. It is essential for those working in the wind turbine industry, where fire hazards can present significant risks. Participants must have completed their original certification before attending the refresher.
Participants will refresh their ability to identify fire hazards, recognise the signs of a fire, and understand the causes of fires within a wind turbine generator. The course covers how fires develop and spread, how to evaluate a fire situation, and how to take the correct actions based on the scenario.
Delegates will demonstrate knowledge of contingency plans within a wind turbine setting, including protocols for smoke detection and emergency evacuation procedures, ensuring they can respond effectively to both manageable and unmanageable fire scenarios. Participants will also revisit the proper protocols and procedures for utilising firefighting equipment during fire extinguishing operations, keeping themselves and their colleagues safe at all times.
