GWO Fire Awareness
Course Overview
The GWO Fire Awareness Training course provides the essential knowledge and practical skills required to identify, prevent, and respond to fire risks within a wind turbine environment. Designed for personnel working in the wind industry, this course ensures participants can demonstrate correct actions and follow emergency procedures to protect themselves and others.
This GWO fire awareness training course forms part of basic safety training and focuses on fire prevention, detection, and response in a wind turbine generator environment. Participants develop the ability to identify signs of a fire, understand the development and spread of fire, and respond using the correct procedures. The training combines theoretical knowledge with practical training to ensure real-world application within the wind turbine industry.

Course Information
GWO Fire Awareness is a vital component of ensuring the safety of personnel in the wind industry. This training equips delegates with essential knowledge about the potential hazards they may encounter in their line of work, specifically related to any type of fire incidents.
During the training, delegates will learn or refresh their skills about the various fire risks that can arise within the unique environment of the wind industry. Become familiar with the different types of fires that can occur and the factors that can contribute to their development, such as weather conditions, equipment malfunctions, and electrical faults.
Delegates will learn preventive measures and early detection of fire hazards. Delegates are educated on fire prevention strategies, safe work practices, and the correct usage of fire safety equipment, including fire extinguishers.
Delegates also learn how to respond efficiently and effectively in case of a fire emergency. They learn proper evacuation procedures, how to raise the alarm, and how to conduct themselves safely during an evacuation.
Please note, this course is suitable for both those completing the refresher and those doing it for the first time.
Practical Training and Firefighting Equipment
A key part of GWO fire awareness is hands-on experience. Participants practice fire extinguishing techniques using appropriate fire fighting equipment, learning the correct operation and limitations of each tool. This practical training ensures delegates can demonstrate correct actions and respond effectively to fire situations within a wind turbine.
Emergency Procedures and Safety
The course places strong emphasis on emergency escape procedures and safety protocols. Participants learn how to respond to fire including correct evacuation steps, how to follow contingency plans in a wind turbine, and how to ensure their own safety and the safety of others.
Understanding how to prevent fires and respond to incidents is critical when working in confined turbine environments where risks can escalate quickly.

This course is suitable for technicians and personnel working within a wind turbine environment, including those entering the global wind industry or completing a fire awareness refresher. It is a key requirement for individuals involved in operations, maintenance, or installation who need to demonstrate knowledge of fire safety and emergency response procedures.
Demonstrate knowledge of the development and spread of fire.
Show your understanding of contingency plans within a wind turbine setting, including protocols for smoke detection and emergency evacuation procedures.
Identify any signs of fire within a wind turbine.
Be able to detect smoke in a wind turbine setting.
Adhere to the proper protocols and procedures for utilising firefighting equipment during fire extinguishing operations. The course content includes both theory and practical elements. Participants learn about the causes of fires, fire prevention methods, and the development and spread of fire in a wind turbine environment. Training also covers smoke detection and emergency escape, as well as the correct procedures when discovering a fire.
Practical training focuses on the correct use of firefighting equipment, including basic handheld firefighting equipment such as extinguishers. Delegates are taught how to use equipment efficiently to extinguish fires where safe to do so, while prioritising personal safety.

Registration and Welcome: The day typically begins with registration, where participants confirm their attendance and receive any necessary training materials or equipment.
Safety Briefing: A safety briefing is conducted to highlight the importance of adhering to safety protocols throughout the training session and in our centre.
Catering: Lunch is not provided for 0.5 day courses.Participants or individuals booking the course are responsible for ensuring that they meet all the necessary prerequisites and provide the required evidence, such as valid certificates for revalidation courses, on the first day of the course.
Failure to fulfill any of these prerequisites may lead to the participant being requested to leave the course. Please note that no refunds will be issued in such cases.
Entry Requirements and PPE
Participants must meet basic medical fitness requirements and have the physical ability to take part in practical training. Delegates are required to bring appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety boots, and may be asked to provide identification such as a driving licence.
Certification and Refresher Training
Upon successful completion, participants receive a GWO fire awareness certificate, which is typically valid for two years. A fire awareness refresher course is required to maintain certification and ensure knowledge and skills remain up to date.
