The GWO Basic Safety Training Refresher course is designed to renew essential safety knowledge and practical skills required to work safely in the wind turbine environment. This course ensures personnel remain compliant with Global Wind Organisation (GWO) standards while maintaining the ability to respond effectively to workplace risks and emergencies.
This basic safety training refresher builds on previously gained knowledge and includes both theoretical and practical training. It refreshes core modules from GWO Basic Safety Training, including fire awareness, manual handling, working at height, sea survival, and first aid.
The course prepares participants to continue working safely in both onshore and offshore wind energy environments, ensuring they meet ongoing emergency response requirements.

The GWO Basic Safety Training (BST) Refresher serves as an excellent package including four key modules. This course serves as a refresher for those who have previously completed the training and hold valid certificates that are still in date at the time of taking this refresher course.

These modules are applicable for on and offshore wind environments, though we do not provide sea survival training.
This safety training refresher is suitable for individuals working in the wind industry who need to renew their GWO basic safety training certification. It is essential for those with an in date GWO certificate that is approaching expiry or within the allowed renewal period. Participants must have completed the initial basic safety training BST before attending this course.

GWO Fire Awareness - This training is a vital component of ensuring the safety and well-being of professionals working in the wind industry. This comprehensive training equips delegates with essential knowledge about the potential hazards they may encounter in their line of work, specifically related to fire incidents. During the training, delegates learn about the various fire risks that can arise within the unique environment of the wind industry. They become familiar with the different types of fires that can occur and the factors that contribute to their development.

GWO First Aid - Administering safe and effective first aid in the wind turbine industry is of paramount importance to ensure the well-being of workers and to respond promptly to any emergencies that might arise. During the training sessions, participants will gain comprehensive knowledge on crucial subjects such as Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), administering basic first aid, adept assessment and communication, initiating emergency assistance, and effectively employing Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).

GWO Working at Heights - This training addresses the unique challenges and risks associated with tasks performed at heights in wind turbine environments. Participants will acquire understanding in areas including Personal Fall Arrest Equipment, measures for preventing falls, ladder usage safety, individual and colleague rescue and protocols for handling emergencies.

GWO Manual Handling - Practising safe manual handling practises and the risks associated in performing incorrect techniques.

A valid WINDA ID is required.

Safety footwear is required for all practical sessions.

A general standard of fitness is required.

Photographic ID Card, such as a drivers licence or passport.

You must hold valid in date Fire Awareness, First Aid, Working at Height and Manual Handling certificates.

Upon completion of the course, delegates will be awarded with GWO approved certification for all four modules, Fire Awareness, First Aid, Working at Height and Manual Handling.
Certification is valid for 2 years, prior to expiry delegates must redo the refresher course to remain certified.Registration and Welcome: The day typically begins with registration, where participants confirm their attendance and receive any necessary training materials or equipment.
Safety Briefing: A safety briefing is conducted to highlight the importance of adhering to safety protocols throughout the training session and in our centre.
Catering: Lunch will be provided to all delegates.Participants or individuals booking the course are responsible for ensuring that they meet all the necessary prerequisites and provide the required evidence, such as valid certificates for revalidation courses, on the first day of the course.
Failure to fulfill any of these prerequisites may lead to the participant being requested to leave the course. Please note that no refunds will be issued in such cases.
Practical Training and Core Modules
A strong focus is placed on practical training to ensure participants can apply their skills in realistic scenarios. This includes:

Using basic handheld firefighting equipment to control an initial fire and respond to an unmanageable fire

Performing manual handling tasks using correct and positive manual handling techniques

Completing basic rescue exercises and understanding comprehensive basic rescue procedures

Practising safe transfer and survival techniques relevant to offshore operations

Delivering appropriate first aid and responding to emergency situations
This hands on approach ensures all participants can perform safe work tasks in a safe manner.
Participants will refresh their understanding of GWO fire awareness, including how to prevent fires, manage evacuation, and use firefighting equipment effectively. The course also reinforces manual handling techniques to reduce the risk of injury and promote ergonomic behaviour during physical tasks.
The course includes key elements of working at height and GWO sea survival, ensuring participants understand safety procedures when operating in challenging environments. This includes the use of personal protective equipment, safe working practices, and emergency response techniques.
Participants will revisit first aid principles, learning how to administer safe and effective treatment in emergency situations. The training supports individuals in meeting emergency response requirements and helps ensure they can contribute to saving lives in critical scenarios.
Certification and Validity
Upon successful completion, participants renew their GWO Basic Safety Training Refresher certification. This is recorded in the GWO WINDA database, ensuring compliance with industry standards across the wind turbine industry.
Course Requirements and Duration
The training refresher is typically shorter than the initial course but maintains the same high standards. Participants must be medically fit and hold a valid or recently expired GWO certificate to attend.
