Course Information

The ART (Advanced Rescue Training) modules are designed to equip participants with the skills and knowledge needed to carry out rescue operations for injured individuals in wind turbine generators (WTGs). This training encompasses the use of industry-standard rescue equipment and techniques, surpassing the standards set by GWO Working at Height, to ensure you are prepared for any rescue operations.

Overview

This advanced rescue training refresher follows GWO Advanced Rescue Training (ART) standards and combines theoretical and practical training to reinforce essential rescue skills. The course enables participants to maintain certification while improving confidence in injured person rescue operations across different areas of a wind turbine generator.

Participants will revisit key rescue methods and techniques, ensuring they can respond effectively in high-risk environments such as the nacelle, tower, basement, and blade areas.

Practical Training and Realistic Scenarios

A strong focus is placed on practical training, with participants completing practical exercises in realistic environments. Delegates will use industry standard rescue equipment methods and techniques to perform rescues safely and effectively.

This hands-on approach allows participants to build confidence, refine their skills, and demonstrate their ability to respond to emergency situations in the wind turbine environment.

Equipment and Safe Rescue Operations

The course reinforces the correct use of equipment rescue methods, ensuring participants can operate safely using rescue systems designed for wind turbines. Training includes applying safe working procedures, integrating manual handling techniques, and supporting casualty care during rescue operations.

Understanding how to combine rescue techniques with other safety modules, such as first aid and manual handling, is essential for effective emergency response.

  • This course is suitable for personnel in the wind industry who have previously completed GWO advanced rescue training and need to complete a refresher training course to keep their certification valid. It is ideal for technicians involved in operations in a WTG where advanced rescue capability is required. Participants should hold relevant certifications such as GWO Working at Height, manual handling training, and first aid, as these underpin safe rescue practices.

  • Participants will refresh the knowledge required to perform rescue operations safely and efficiently. The course focuses on building on knowledge previously gained, enabling delegates to apply rescue methods confidently in a range of scenarios. This includes understanding how to approach rescue situations as a single rescuer, managing casualty handling, and applying safe techniques during entry type injured person rescue scenarios.

    • A valid WINDA ID is required.

    • You must have valid and in-date GWO Working at Height.

    • You must have an in date ART certificate to complete the refresher.

    • You must have valid and in-date GWO First Aid.

    • You must have valid and in-date GWO Manual Handling.

    • Safety footwear is required for all practical sessions.

    • A general standard of fitness is required.

    • Photographic ID Card, such as a drivers licence or passport.

  • After successfully finishing the course, participants will receive a GWO-approved ART certificate, which remains valid for a duration of two years. Delegates will also receive certification for GWO Manual Handling and GWO Working at Height. To maintain their certification, delegates are required to undergo GWO ART Refresher again before the certificate's expiration date.

  • Registration and Welcome: The day typically begins with registration, where participants confirm their attendance and receive any necessary training materials or equipment.
Safety Briefing: A safety briefing is conducted to highlight the importance of adhering to safety protocols throughout the training session and in our centre.
Catering: Lunch will be provided to all delegates.

  • Participants or individuals booking the course are responsible for ensuring that they meet all the necessary prerequisites and provide the required evidence, such as valid certificates for revalidation courses, on the first day of the course.

Failure to fulfill any of these prerequisites may lead to the participant being requested to leave the course. Please note that no refunds will be issued in such cases.

  • The training covers key elements of advanced rescue, including blade rescue, inside blade rescue, and basement rescue refresher scenarios. Participants will also practise rescue operations within the hub, spinner and inside blade areas, as well as tower and basement rescue situations. These modules ensure participants are prepared for rescue operations across the full structure of a wind turbine generator, from the base to the nacelle.

Certification and Validity

Upon successful completion, participants renew their GWO ART refresher certification, confirming they have maintained the required knowledge and skills from the ART standard. Certification is recorded in WINDA in line with GWO requirements.

Course Requirements and Progression

Participants must have previously completed the full GWO advanced rescue training course and be physically capable of completing practical elements. The refresher ensures all skills remain current and aligned with industry expectations.
