First Aid at Work Requalification

If you have previously completed a first aid at work course and your aid at work certificate is still valid, an aid at work requalification course may be available as an alternative. Contact our training team to discuss which is the right course for your situation. Delegates who have not previously completed a first aid at work qualification, or whose work certificate has expired, should attend the full 2 day workplace first aid course.

What the Course Covers

Across the two day course, delegates develop a full range of first aid skills through a mix of classroom instruction and hands-on practical sessions. The course covers all essential first aid knowledge required of a competent workplace first aider, including:

  • Current health and safety first aid regulations and employer responsibilities under the First Aid Regulations 1981

  • Primary and secondary casualty assessment

  • Basic first aid for unconscious casualties including recovery position and airway management

  • CPR for adults, children, and infants, including the use of an AED

  • Managing a first aid emergency involving choking, bleeding, shock, and burns

  • Recognising and responding to a first aid emergency involving heart attack, stroke, and seizures

  • Basic first aid for bone and joint injuries including fractures and sprains

  • Aid skills for managing anaphylaxis and diabetic emergencies

  • Use of first aid kits and aid supplies in the workplace

  • Mental health awareness as part of a broader approach to workplace wellbeing

2 Day Workplace First Aid Course.webp
  • This first aid course is suitable for anyone in any workplace setting who has been nominated as, or is looking to become, a workplace first aider. It is particularly well suited to those in high risk environments such as construction, manufacturing, and the wind industry, where the risk of a first aid emergency is greater and a trained first aider is a legal requirement under the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981.

The 2 day workplace first aid course is also suitable for those who have previously completed a first aid at work qualification and need to requalify. If your aid at work certificate has lapsed or is due for renewal, this course provides the right route back to full certification.

    • Learn about current up to date Legislation.

    • Carry out manual handling risk assessments.

    • The musculoskeletal system. This involves understanding the structure, function, and interactions of the bones, muscles, joints, ligaments, and other connective tissues in the body.

    • Common injuries encountered using improper handling techniques.

    • How to execute safe manual handling techniques.

    • Learn about mechanical aids.

    • Learn how to carry out practical load moving exercises.

  • After successfully finishing the course, participants will receive a Coast Training certificate, which remains valid for a duration of two years. To maintain their certification, delegates are required to undergo the training again.

  • Registration and Welcome: The day typically begins with registration, where participants confirm their attendance and receive any necessary training materials or equipment.
Safety Briefing: A safety briefing is conducted to highlight the importance of adhering to safety protocols throughout the training session and in our centre.
Catering: Lunch is not provided for our 0.5 day courses.

How Many First Aiders Does a Workplace Need?

The number of first aiders required varies depending on the size, nature, and risk level of the workplace. Low risk workplaces with small numbers of staff may only need one trained first aider, while larger or higher risk environments will need more. Employers are required to carry out an assessment of their first aid needs and ensure sufficient first aiders are trained and available at all times.

Certification

Successful candidates receive a first aid at work certificate upon completion of the 2 day workplace first aid course. The aid certificate is valid for three years. Before the work certificate expires, delegates must complete a requalification course to maintain their status as a trained first aider. Delegates will also receive access to a first aid manual to support their ongoing confidence and aid skills in the workplace.
